The 17th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies

The 17th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies and its 50th Anniversary was held at the Kaliti Campus of the Addis Ababa University November 2 - 8, 2009.

Professor Andreas Eshete, President of the Addis Ababa University, and Dr. Elizabeth W/Giorgis, Director of IES, greatly acknowledged the generous and heartfelt contributions of Sheikh Mohammed H. Al-Amoudi to the construction of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies Library located at the Addis Ababa University campus. Moreover, MIDROC Ethiopia has been one of the leading sponsors of the 17th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies.

A paper has been published by Professor Pankhurst, tracing the early development of the International Conference of Ethiopian Studies, the progress and the status to-date; and this paper was presented at the Conference by the Professor’s wife, Mrs. Pankhurst.

Executives of MIDROC Ethiopia and prominent members of the Addis Ababa University and other invited guests were present at the opening ceremony.
