The Awassa Chipwood Factory is finalizing its construction and commisioning works to start production and sales of particle board in the coming few months.

The factory is located in Hawassa town of the Southern Nations and Nationalities’ Peoples Regional State (SNNPR) 275 kms. south of Addis Ababa. The factory is designed to produce 40,000 cu. m of chipboard annually for local and export markets. The factory lies in an area of 69,000 sq.m. with an integrated forestry development on 985 hectares of wood land acquired under lease agreement for twenty years in Wolayta Sodo in SNNPR.

The purpose of the factory, among others, include forest development and harvesting of trees for the production of chip board and projected expansion and innovation plan for manufacture and marketing of high quality particle board with 6 mm – 40 mm thickness for use in furniture making, roofing, internal building, wall partition and also as packing material. Development activities initiated and put into effect are all targeted, not only to ensure the realization of the objectives of the factory, but also contribute to the socio economic development of the Region.

The establishment of the Factory plays a significant role to increase job opportunities and generation of income for the Region.
